My beautiful girl, it’s hard to contemplate that we’ve known each other for an entire year. Albeit 8 months of that year I could only feel you and not see you, but I was getting to know and love you nonetheless. Ever since I saw that little blue line appear you have consumed my life in the most positive way. We’ve moved past pregnancy and the newborn stage, and the health professionals are now looking after newer babies as they begin their journey. Meanwhile you are quickly becoming a sturdy, chatty baby full of character and the most heart warming smiles which radiate from behind your incredibly long eyelashes!
You’re developing so fast and are learning lots of new tricks. You can roll yourself over now which is great fun until you get your leg stuck through the cot bars! You’re trying your hardest to sit but keep falling forward so we’re not quite there yet. You have the strongest legs and love being bounced on my lap and going in your jumperoo. Teething is well under way and I’m forever putting a new dribble bib on you, we love these bandana bibs by Lovjoy. You want to put everything in your mouth and despite buying lots of various teething toys (including my fave the gummeeglove) you prefer to knaw at my finger. Sleeping is still a challenge, you’re in the big cot in your own room which initially seemed to help you sleep but we still have nights with hourly wake ups. Most mornings at around 6:30 I scoop you up and we cuddle in bed until 8 or 9 – I just can’t resist those warm floppy early morning cuddles and you’re a picture of cententment nestled against my chest.
The past year has been the biggest learning curve of my life and at only 4 months old you have taught me so much. I know as the parent I should be the educator but the reality is that you are the one teaching me. I know there are so many more lessons to come, but for the list below I want to thank you my precious, beautiful baby girl.
- You have taught me how to love on an entirely new level, a level which can only be experienced by a parent.
- You have taught me that the greatest fulfillment comes from selflessly caring for another.
- You have taught me that I am stronger than I ever realised.
- You have taught me that your daddies capacity to love, protect and nurture knows no boudaries.
- You have taught me to trust my instincts.
- You have taught me to respect and appreciate how wonderous and amazing the human body is.
…and tonights lesson, don’t play aeroplanes straight after a feed or I will puke in your face.
I’m already so proud of you and love watching you develop and grow a little more each day, please don’t grow too fast.
Thank you for a life changing first year darling.
Love mummy x
